Neurostim is dedicated to improve the life of those who suffer from paraplegia by restoring their locomotion through neuroprosthetics. The project consists of implanting patients with electrodes attached directly around the nerves and controlled through a closed-loop system programmed in a miniature electronic device also implanted in the patient but just below the skin.

They are in France 30000 paraplegic patients and 6500 tetraplegics with a mean age of 31 and 65% by traffic accidents and 15% sport accidents. More than 300000 paralyzed persons are living in Europe and 250000 paralyzed patients in US..The quality of life of those patients is always perturbed due to the difficulty to live in wheelchair. The psycho-social support by family and non profit associations is very precious but variable and therefore everything has to be made to help them as best as possible by improving the neurorehabilitation procedures.

We are still in the experimentation phase of the project and the Neurostim team will pay for all the implanted devices (electrodes, electronic implant, connectors) as well as the external parts. However all the hospital expenses (surgery, bed stay, rehabilitation…) have to be paid by an insurance company or by the hospital itself or by other local possibility like foundation or nonprofit association. If you are interested to help us, please contact the GRAPPA association.
